On long winter’s eves, families of Savoy like to tell age-old stories ; tales that shaped their identity and culture. Many of these tales have become embellished or modified as they have been told and re-told over the centuries, but they are still the thread that binds us together, the memory of our forefathers.
Maxime Aulio was inspired by Monique de Huertas’s book of the same name which contains tales and legends from all parts of Savoy, from the depths of the earth to the tops of the mountains. Music is a powerful medium of imagination.
It brings color into the narrative and lets the characters come to life. And like a magical sparkle, The Bilberry Fairy and the Chamois, The Magic Stick and The Lady from Val de Fier appear for a while, and you’ll be told The Legend of Duvallon, making time stop its course.
Commissioned by the Fédération des Musiques du Faucigny (Savoie, France).
